Skin rejuvenation covers a group of treatments for texture, tone, and signs of aging. Some options work on the surface, and others reach deeper layers of the skin. Before you book a visit, it helps to know how each treatment works. Here are four skin rejuvenation treatments at an aesthetics center:
Chemical Peels
A chemical peel applies an acid solution to the skin. When needed, providers use peels for uneven tone, sun spots, and fine lines. The solution removes damaged outer layers, and newer skin forms underneath. The depth of the peel depends on the acid that your provider selects.
- Light peels: Glycolic or lactic acid, with little to no downtime
- Medium peels: Trichloroacetic acid, with about one week of peeling
- Deep peels: Phenol, with several weeks of recovery
Light peels suit busy schedules, and some guests repeat them monthly. If you have darker skin, ask about the risk of pigment changes. Expect flaking for several days after a medium peel. Daily sunscreen protects new skin after this skin rejuvenation treatment.
Microneedling Treatments
Microneedling uses a pen-like device with fine, sterile needles, and it creates tiny channels in the skin. These small injuries prompt a healing response, which involves collagen and elastin production. Collagen gives skin its firmness and structure. Providers use microneedling for fine lines, acne scars, and enlarged pores.
Before treatment begins, a provider applies a numbing cream to the area. A typical session is short. Most guests report mild redness afterward, and it typically fades within two to three days. Some guests notice light pinpoint bleeding during the session.
Providers may recommend a series of several sessions. Since skin needs time to heal, sessions typically occur several weeks apart. Some clinics add platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to the treatment, and this version takes slightly longer. Plan to avoid sun exposure and retinoids for several days after each visit.
Red Light Therapy
Red light therapy uses low-level wavelengths of light, and it involves no needles or heat. The light penetrates the outer layers of skin, which produce energy inside skin cells. Some devices also use near-infrared light.
While you sit or lie under the panel, the device stays a short distance from your face. Sessions are very quick, and you need no recovery time. Many med spas suggest weekly sessions over several months. You wear protective eye covers during treatment.
Skin Resurfacing
Skin resurfacing usually refers to laser treatments, though some clinics include dermabrasion. Non-ablative lasers heat the tissue below, and they leave the surface intact. Non-ablative lasers provide a milder treatment with a few days of redness and multiple sessions
Your provider reviews your skin type, health history, and medications first. Since lasers affect pigment, some skin tones need specific settings. Aftercare includes gentle cleansing and moisturizing, and you avoid direct sun for several weeks. Preparation sometimes involves topical creams for a few weeks beforehand.
Try Skin Rejuvenation Treatments
Each treatment works differently, and recovery times range from none to several weeks. A consultation gives you a clear starting point. When you meet with a provider, ask about credentials, safety protocols, and aftercare. Bring a list of your skin goals and current products to the appointment.
